Brooks St. Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones will deliver the State of the Town Address, providing Wake Forest citizens an opportunity to reflect on an impressive list of accomplishments in 2009 and learn about the goals Wake Forest will strive towards in 2010. Great List of Things To Do in Wake Forest NC - February 8 - 14, 2010

Wow, what a crazy weather week in Wake Forest NC!  While we had incredibly beautiful snow last week it became quite a hassle the rest of the week.  Kids didn't have school Monday - Wednesday and now they will have to make up several of the days on Saturdays!  My neighborhood was FULL of kids sledding and having snowball fights and there were a few injuries - my son included.  My son, Liam, decided to find the steepest driveway and go rogue.......he hit a bump and ended up in the trees.  After 4 visits with an Ophthalmologist we think he will continue to get his sight back little by little with minimal long-term damage - it has been very scary but not enough to keep him from basketball!  He played in his game last night and at one point when the coach was getting him in the game where Liam had to look to the left Liam said, "Hey, that's my bad eye!" to which the coach just responded "Well, use your GOOD eye!"  Way too funny!

Many of the local restaurants and business had abbreviated hours this past week as well due to the weather but as the week is coming to a close things seem to be getting back to normal.  So, with that said, here is a peek at the upcoming week's schedule!  It's going to be a fantastic week with so much going on!  Don't forget the Valentine's Day Dance, Margaritas and Mambo, Art After Hours, and so much more.....

Wow, talk about an area coming to a standstill!  I know that in Wake Forest NC we have waited all season to see a few snow flakes and we got our wish over this past weekend!  Over 6 inches of snow fell in Wake Forest NC!  That may not be much to others in different parts of the country but it was a huge event here!  I have to laugh when I think of a Status Update a friend of mine put on Facebook:  "For those of you that don't live in the Raleigh NC area:  We are having a "Winter Storm EVENT"-- very fancy way of saying, "It's SNOWING"

Roads are still a little edgy this morning but little by little we will get it all cleared and be back to normal - just takes us a little longer than the rest of the country when we get snow.

The Friends of the Wake Forest Library present Carol W. Pelosi, local author and journalist, to discuss her recently published history of Wake Forest. Carol's book, Connections...100 Years of Wake Forest History, tells the story of the Town of Wake Forest as it grew from 1,443 people in 1910 to over 26,000 in 2008. This program is part of the 2009-2010 Friends of the Library Speaker Series and is free and open to the public. Wake Forest Cemetery Clean Up

The Town of Wake Forest will conduct a cleanup at the Wake Forest Cemetery on Friday, Jan. 29. The cleanup will include the removal of all unsightly and/or deteriorated flower arrangements. Residents should remove any arrangements they wish to keep no later than Thursday, Jan. 28 and may reset them beginning Saturday, Jan. 30. All removed arrangements will be placed in storage for one week and will then be discarded. For more information, call (919) 554-6123.

Read the Bible in 90 Days

The Bible in 90 Days is a Bible Reading curriculum that helps people read attentively the entire Bible in 90 days (only 12 pages per day). This is not a speed-read through the Bible class, rather more akin to reading the Bible like a novel. Each participant reads on their own, then gathers once a week with other participants. The weekly meetings include a small group discussion, activities, and a video lesson. Many class sessions are available. Registration is free. Bradley Sowash Inspirational Concert

The Virginia Tull Music and Arts Series of Wake Forest Baptist Church will feature Bradley Sowash in an Inspirational Concert on Sunday, Jan. 31. The concert will feature sacred jazz music by this acclaimed jazz pianist, composer, author, and educator who has delighted listeners for two decades. The 2009 Average Sales Price for the month of December was $303,135 compared to that of $288,895 in 2008.

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

Wake Forest will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday by honoring first-year Coach Reggie Lucas, who led the Wake Forest-Rolesville High School football team to a winning season that ended when the Cougars lost to Jack Britt in the regional final. Guest speaker, Dr. Tom Jackson, pastor emeritus at Wake Forest Baptist, will honor the coach and team on January 21 with a dinner and program. The program will also recognize the students from local schools who won the contest for art, writing, and creative performance. Now in its 16th year, the event is free and open to the public.
